A lot of people love to eat turkey and they only know of one way of cooking it: baking. I suppose that is a perfectly decent way of doing it, but deep frying is an alternative. I'll admit that this type of method came off a little odd to me the first time I heard about it. When I think of things that are deep fried, I think of things that are nice and crispy, oh and they're also very greasy. Those are not the characteristics that I want to see associated with a turkey.
I remember the first time I went to a Thanksgiving day meal, where we were going to have a deep fried turkey and I thought it was going to be awful, but to my surprise it was delicious. The meat was very moist and the bird wasn't greasy at all.
As you can probably guess you can't exactly deep fry a bird of this size with some home deep fryer. You need something a lot bigger. Basically people have to cook outside because they need a large pot full of oil and propane to heat it up. Obviously these things don't belong in a house for safety reasons.
Basically all you do is put the turkey in a lowering basket and place it gently into the hot oil. The cooking time is much faster than you would expect when compared to baking. You can typically get things down in like 45 minutes, which is extremely fast for a 15lb turkey.
