If you are a serious cook, it's likely that you have had a stand mixer in your kitchen for quite some time. Because it is in the top in its field and has been for almost one hundred years, it's also probably a Kitchenaid. However, if you want to take your cooking and baking to the next level, you may want to examine the features of a Kitchenaid professional mixer.
THE KITCHENAID PRO SERIES
While still maintaining the same durability and performance of the basic lines, the professional models are the creme de la creme of baking perfection and have a few more features that can take your kitchen adventures from average to amazing.
THE PRO 500
The Kitchenaid Professional line actually includes two different models. The Pro 500 series has most of the same features of the Artisan mixers. The motor wattage and bowl size, for example are exactly the same. The speed and attachments are also the same. And, while the same three mixing attachments are included (paddle, dough hook and whip) they are upgraded to a higher quality. Also, the Kitchenaid Professional mixer in this series features the bowl lift design instead of the tilt head. Instead of lifting the mixing head up and out of the way, the mixing head is stable and the bowl lifts and lowers to engage the mixing mechanism and add ingredients. Both designs are practical and many people find them a matter of personal preference. If you are used to the bowl lift, for example, you will find the tilt head inconvenient and vice versa. However, the bowl lift is widely considered the better design in commercial applications.
THE PRO 600
If you want to come into total kitchen nirvana, Kitchenaid offers the Pro 600 series. This takes the same basic design of the Pro 500 and completely takes it to another level. While the Pro 500 has a 325 watt motor, the 600 model bumps the power up to whopping 575 watts, an improvement of more than 25%. Also, the bowl size increases by a 1 qt. capacity. While this doesn't look like a whole lot on paper, when compared side by side, the 600 is significantly larger. This Kitchenaid professional mixer can easily mix a double batch of cookies or bread. Also, the Pro 600 comes in more color options than the 500, though still not as many as the Artisan. Some models also feature electronic sensors to make sure that you maintain a consistent mixing speed. The Pro 600 is such an impressive mixer that it is regularly used by many professional bakeries. However, it is priced well within a budget friendly range.
If you are a serious cook, you want to have serious kitchen tools at hand. After developing a reputation over the years for excellence in the kitchen, choose the Kitchenaid Professional mixer. As a cook with a reputation, make sure your tools have the reputation to match.
